As I wrote about a month ago, I was really excited about attending Kawaii-Kon in Oahu, Hawaii- and now, after a fantastic experience, I have returned to share!
I’ve been to a few conventions in the past, and I’ve always enjoyed the electricity in the air: the meticulous cosplay, art of all styles, excited murmurings of things I don’t always understand…. it’s wonderful- a cultural experience that many people prepare all year or more for- and it’s a brilliant thing.
When we first arrived, walking around the beautiful convention center, we saw a girl dressed as Clementine. I was doing a panel that afternoon and I asked my Expert Con Advisor, “Should I ask her if she’ll come to my panel?”
… I was feeling shy …
So I walked up to this lovely girl, who, I found out is named Lily… ! -she stood up, reached out and hugged me. She had a lot of incredible things to say about how much The Walking Dead Game means to her… I walked away in tears… that little Clem started my adventure in a very special way.
As I mentioned earlier, I was asked to do a panel about the stuff I do- and although I was nervous, at least I knew I would have Clem there to support me.
I think I had about 20 guests, just right. Lots of great questions about The Walking Dead, Psychonauts … The Sims was a very popular topic!- and there is a lot of excitement about Act 2 of Broken Age as well. It was a relaxed and comfortable experience- I really hope I get to do this sort of thing again!
After all that talking, I got to sign autographs! I’m so grateful to everyone who came to meet me- people brought their own games, t-shirts, alpacas… I had a blast meeting fans of the games I’ve been in. These moments were some of my favorites of the con.
Such a great weekend! Many special moments that I’m so glad to have captured.
There was one moment that I was really waiting for- I recorded Psychonauts over 10 years ago- yet I had never met Richard Horvitz ever- and he was my boyfriend! 😉
When I found out he was going to be at Kawaii-Kon as well, I was really really excited…
and then…. THIS!!!
Being a part of an anime con was a lot of fun- I didn’t know a lot of the characters, but they were some truly unforgettable and unbelievable cosplayers. There was one cosplayer in particular that really made me smile…. my favorite TMNT!!!
A goal of mine this year is to travel to cons and share what I do as much as I can. If you have a con in your town and you’d like to meet me, tell the bosses! I would love to meet you 😀
Meeting fans of the games is an indescribable feeling… and meeting people who have really felt connected to me through a character is a phenomenal thing. In your life- you never know when what you do, can really make someone feel something- it’s definitely something to think about. Never does it not matter. 🙂
Mahalo to Kawaii-Kon, to HI-Waikiki, and for the inspiration I gained from this adventure- the serenity and totally unbelievable beauty of Hawaii. ♥
